Sophie Newnham

Sophie is a botanical and portrait artist with over 20 years of experience working primarily in oil painting. Her acclaimed large-scale botanical works celebrate the breathtaking beauty and intricate detail of the natural world, earning her a Fellowship with the Society of Botanical Artists in 2019. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally and collected through galleries, art fairs, and private commissions.

Portraiture has become a defining element of Sophie’s practice. Over the course of her career, she has created numerous commissioned portraits and developed a distinctive style rooted in honesty and emotional depth, particularly through her ongoing series of self-portraits. Her talent in this field has been recognised twice with a place on the reserve list for Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.

An experienced and passionate teacher, Sophie has been leading ongoing drawing and painting classes at respected London art schools, alongside running portrait and botanical workshops at various venues. Her teaching approach is supportive and encouraging, helping students at all levels build confidence, refine their skills, and explore their creative potential.
