Most people spend New Year's Eve doing one of three things: partying, in church, or at home with loved ones. And for Darnell Liburd, Howie Fuller, Sade McCray, Kadeem Richards, Garreton Smith, and Craig Johnson that's exactly what they did -- attend church. They brought the new year in by attending a church service at the Holy Temple of God in Christ in the Bronx. But that wasn't the only way they decided to bring the new year in. After service ended around 12:30, the four college graduates were inspired to help those less fortunate as a token of gratitude. They decided as a group that they wanted to give out food to those in need, so they got in a car, drove to McDonald's, and ordered 50 McChickens and 50 double-cheese burgers. After they finished receiving their order of food around 1:15 AM, they drove to Manhattan and proceeded to hand out food to individuals who needed it the most. Atlantic Records donated granola bars to support the cause. Two black Greek-lettered organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., also made financial contributions. In addition to serving food to individuals, they greeted and exchanged pleasantries, wishing people a Happy New Year, and bringing smiles to the faces of those they were helping. They didn't finish until around 5:00 AM, but it was an experience they said they will never forget and they're thankful they got to help others in their time of need. Truly a remarkable way to start off a new year, and hopefully a sign of good fortune to come to those they helped and themselves.
