Benita Johnson Music
Based in the south of England, I have been active on the British live music scene for a couple of decades – long enough to appreciate the impact of austerity and C-19, in particular, on both venues and artists. I’m also aware that the public appetite to experience live music is still strong - and I believe we need a revival to feed that appetite and demonstrate how awesome live music can be. The grassroots music industry is an essential foundation stone to the UK music scene as a whole – along with education. Lessons, open mics and jam sessions are where people first find out how to actively DO music – and what it can do for them. And, as anyone who works in music will tell you, it can be far more than a pastime. It can take you to new places – literally and figuratively, open new worlds of opportunity and experience that might otherwise have been beyond your personal horizons. For that reason, it is also so important for people to be able to see this in action – whether it’s a band or one-man-band at the local pub, a big name or a touring songwriter. Seeing them weaving the magic of music in the flesh, not just streaming or on the TV – that’s what makes it beautifully real, and achievable.
To this end, Benita Johnson Music works hard to have an impact at EVERY level of grassroots opportunities through teaching, open mic, jam sessions, bookings management, promotion and staging showcase events.
