Architecture, Culture & Tectonics Research Group

The Architecture, Culture and Tectonics Research Group is based at the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment, University of Nottingham. Its focus is on exploring the effects of the design and layout of buildings, public realm and landscape on our social and cultural interactions, and test how we can make such places more meaningful and sustainable. Our research methods include the critical exploration of digital recording technologies applied to existing buildings and built heritage. Our research has been applied to designing exhibition spaces, analysing historical architecture (such as Lincoln Cathedral), and the design of novel lightweight and deployable structures at international expos and other events (through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and consultancies).

Projects span a range of scales and contexts, from individual components of buildings at a local level, through to large scale planning and management of landscapes and cities internationally. Research themes include:

Museums, Representation, and Display;

Digital Heritage and Globalisation;

Housing, Cities, and Landscape;

Architectural Drawing and Representation
