Aalborg University Copenhagen- BUILD

We are a group of researchers from the BUILD department of Aalborg University in Copenhagen. Our group works empirically and theoretically with household consumption and everyday practice and with public, private, and civil actor initiatives in the development of cities and residential areas. We cooperates with all Danish actors active in the city in housing and supply, such as municipalities, utilities, public and private partnerships, private companies, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). In addition, at the national and international levels, we collaborate with Danish and international universities and knowledge institutions to provide the basis for decision-making and the background knowledge for a sustainable transformation of the city and residential area. Group members participate in several academic networks, such as SCORAI, EURA, ECEEE, and the ESA research network on consumption.

In this workshop, our goal is to combine some of our theoretical understandings with practical and empirical insights from real projects, in order to compose a toolkit that can be used to engage with projects working with sustainability transitions, such as work in the sectors of energy, mobility, building renovation and food. We seek to combine principles of the sociological theories of practice with participatory design methods, as a way to design a more inclusive and meaningful way of understanding the complexity of the issues surrounding these projects, as well as contribute to their solutions.
