Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R. CT)
Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R) is a New Canaan based 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2020 by long-time New Canaan resident, Fatou Niang. The S.T.A.R mission is to equip residents of New Canaan, CT and neighboring communities with tools and resources to understand systemic racism— including its history, root causes and the structures that perpetuate it and to proactively advocate for racial equity and bias elimination.
We believe that by working together, we can drive transformative and sustainable social change in our community and beyond. At S.T.A.R., we see self-reflection and representation as a critical aspect of racial justice. By standing together, we create a community where all can flourish and thrive.
We seek to achieve our mission in three ways: Education, Community Outreach and Advocacy & Policy. Our 2023 programs will include:
- On-going Youth and Adult Social Justice book clubs
- Martin Luther King Day event
- SoulFête - Black History Month Event
- Hearts of Freedom: A Juneteenth Community Celebration
- Through Your Looking Glass Art Showcase
- NCHS Senior Award and Scholarship Presentation
- “Future: Forward” Speaker Series
