How to process refunds with PayPal

You can issue a full refund for an order using "Refund this Order" in the "Actions" drop-down menu (when viewing the Orders report). If you're using PayPal as your payment processor, you'll need to click "Initiate Refund" to complete the refund from within your PayPal account.

  • 1. Go to Manage my Events.
  • 2. Go to your Event Dashboard. 
  • 3. Go to Orders (under Manage Attendees).
  • 4. Search for the order.
  • 5. Select Refund this Order (in the "Actions" drop-down menu).
  • 6. Click Initiate Refund.
  • 7. Optional: Manually mark an order as refunded.

1. Go to Manage my Events.

Log in to your Eventbrite account and select Manage my events from your account menu.

2. Go to your Event Dashboard. 

Click your event to go to your Event Dashboard.

3. Go to Orders (under Manage Attendees).

4. Search for the order.

Find the order you want to refund.

5. Select Refund this Order (in the "Actions" drop-down menu).

6. Click Initiate Refund.

You'll be redirected to PayPal to complete the refund.

If you issue a full refund, the order will automatically update in Eventbrite. If you issue a partial refund, you'll need to manually mark the order as refunded.

NOTE: If you're having trouble after being redirected to PayPal, contact PayPal for assistance.

7. Optional: Manually mark an order as refunded.

In some cases, you may need to manually mark an order as refunded. For example, you'd need to manually mark an order as refunded in the following situations:

  • You want to issue a partial, not full, refund.

  • You're outside of PayPal's 180 day refund window, so you issued a refund as a separate transaction.

To manually mark an order as refunded:

  1. Go to Orders (under “Manage Attendees”) and find the order.

  2. Select “Actions” next to the order. 

  3. Choose "Refund this order".

  4. Click the "Manually update" link.

  5. Set the refund reason, quantity, and refund amount.

  6. Click "Continue", then "Issue refund".

This only adjusts your records on Eventbrite. Make sure you've manually sent the funds to the attendee through PayPal.
