ABOUT THE TRAINING

Duration: 60 minutes

Contents: Introduction to the rolling review or requirements (RRR) and its application to Essential Ocean Variables and Essential Climate Variables. Impact and evolution of the process. Where do requirements come from, and do you believe they are real?

The Rolling Review of Requirements (RRR) is a process defined by the Manual on the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WMO-No. 1160, section 2.2.4 and Appendix 2.3). The purpose of the RRR process is to provide a systematic and transparent process to support the high-level design and evolution of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) aligned with its Vision in 2040. The RRR process compiles information about requirements for observations, the capabilities of the observing system, and their cost-effectiveness, drawing on experts and impact studies to guide the most important priorities for addressing the gaps between requirements and capabilities, with consideration of WMO priorities (find out more).

Audience: Early career researchers and scientists working in oceanography, ocean observing, climate prediction, ESM climate modelling, data management, and the wider climate science scientific community.
