Talks at the Square w. Dr. Sang Yup Lee
Date and time
'Where is industrial biotechnology heading, and what can start-ups do to deftly avoid The Valley of Death'
About this event
We are thrilled to announce that on April 29, Dr. Sang Yup Lee, Vice President for Research and Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST), will give a “Talks at the Square” at BioInnovation Institute.
Dr. Sang Yup Lee was one of the pioneers of the scientific research field of systems metabolic engineering, which integrates systems biology, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering, allowing for more efficient and sustainable production of a wide range of chemicals.
During his talk, he will share some of his most promising research with commercial potential regarding the efficient microbial production of natural compounds, including flavors, fragrances, and health-promoting compounds. Throughout his career, Sang Yup Lee has experienced the ups- and downs of industrial biotechnology and the reoccurring challenge of the ‘Valley of Death’ when trying to scale up a biobased alternative to compete with existing chemical solutions.
Thus, Sang Yup Lee will try to answer the big question: Where is industrial biotechnology heading currently, and what can start-ups do to deftly avoid ‘The Valley of Death’?
