In the Danish theater and performance field, in the past years, there has been an increasing interest in queer performance and performances concerning gender identity and expression. Often, though, the performances are presented as new, emerging, and exceptional overlooking the vast history of queer performance in Denmark. And with little relation to the queer and trans communities about which the content speaks.
The IPAF 2022 Dialogue Program: Queer Histories & Trans Performance wants to reclaim and progress the conversation about queer and trans performance in Denmark through two panels: Queer Performance Histories in Denmark and Trans Aesthetics & Performance.
Join the conversation at Støberiet or online when we discuss:
1# Queer Performance Histories in Denmark will be a manifestation of the long-standing queer performance history in Denmark and a change to discuss the genre’s unique qualities as well as the future of queer performance and queer art production in Denmark.
2# Trans Aesthetics & Performance will invite contemporary trans artists to discuss their practices and the meaning of trans aesthetics in relation to their work. The panel will focus on the meaning and potential of trans aesthetics and the relation between gender identity, trans embodiment, and art production.
Speakers in the dialogue programme:
Trans aesthetics and performance:
- Beck Heiberg
- Charlie Laban Trier
- Alvina Chamberland
- Jules Fischer
Queer performance histories:
