Warehouse9 and Josh Herring present Queer Community Singing Group: A singing group for queer people that offers weekly rehearsals and provides a meaningful and creative space, regardless of your musical experience. The singing group will give queer people a space to express themselves and participate in a creative activity that is open to all voices, all genders, and non-genders.
The Queer Community Singing Group is a fun and diverse evolution of the traditional choir. We will be singing popular songs and in order to make the sessions more accessible, we will not be working from music sheets and will not restrict vocals to gender or voice type.
Queer Community Singing Group is a pilot initiative and will happen over the course of five Saturdays in April and May. It is preferable but definitely not a requirement that you can attend all five sessions.
Queer Community Singing Group is free to participate in and you can sign up beforehand here. There is room for 25 people in each session: 20 spots can be booked online ahead of time, and 5 spots will be accessible at the door on the day at a first come, first serve principle.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Josh Herring (he/him) is a songwriter and performer, with a background in composition and community music. He runs several choirs in Copenhagen, having moved here in 2018. He fell in love with choirs in the UK, in Birmingham, where he worked with The Choir With No Name – a choir for people who have experienced homelessness. The passion of its members and the strength of the community that singing together created, literally helped people to change their lives.
Afterwards, he started working with choirs inside prisons to be able to provide an engaging and creative community in a difficult environment. Whatever the setting, singing together has the ability to change people’s lives and strengthen communities.
REFRESHMENTS
Coffee, tea and water will be offered during the session.
ACCESS
Queer Community Singing Group is accessible to all voice types.
KU.BE Lab is located at the top of KU.BE and can be accessed via elevator. There are wheelchair-accessible toilets on the ground floor. Accessible parking spots are located at the front entrance of the venue.
KU.BE is in Frederiksberg with bus lines 10, 21, 31, and 9a, as well as the s-train line F and the metro fairly close by.
Please note that KU.BE is a public space and it can be quite busy on Saturdays. The rehearsal room, Lab, will, however, be closed for public interference.
As always, Warehouse9 strives toward securing safer spaces for our community, and this workshop will fold out in secure surroundings.
The singing group takes place on Saturdays, on the 22nd and 29th of April, and on the 6th, 13th, and 20th of May 2023.
