Webinar on how Europe can manage the first winter without Russian energy in the light of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
About this event
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has aggravated an already difficult energy supply situation in Europe. This winter began with historic low supplies from Russia and low gas storage levels. Now the war has underlined that Europe’s dependency on Russian energy is not sustainable. But what are Europe’s options next winter and beyond?
This webinar will – with views from two of the EU’s largest member states with a high dependency on Russian gas - Germany & Italy – investigate the different possibilities for both short term and long-term management of Europe’s energy supply. To what extent can the EU, for instance, substitute Russian energy with imports from thirds countries, extend the lifespan of nuclear plants or speed up various aspects of the EU’s “Fit for 55-plan”? During the webinar we will also focus on lessons learnt from the Libyan war, where Italy had to substitute 33 pct. of its energy supplies.
