Organizer of Capital Region: Chalked Up(state)
We’re a service-oriented, volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to expand access to rock climbing and outdoor recreation for LGBTQIA+ communities across the New York metropolitan area. Through climbing, CRUX aims to build community, support physical and emotional well-being, and offer leadership opportunities to LGBTQIA+ individuals, while providing education and visibility within the greater climbing community. We host regular indoor climbing nights, outdoor day trips, and multi-day trips across the country. We also focus on skill-building classes and workshops, such as wilderness first aid, self-rescue, anchor building, and competition coaching. Our main outreach partner is the Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and supportive services for homeless LGBTQIA youth. We also participate in outreach initiatives like high school pride clubs and trans-focused wellness groups. CRUX is proud to be a founding member of the annual Radical Climbing Festival.
